Baby Playtime

Play is how your baby learns

Every time your child stacks a block, pushes off on a balance bike or turns the page of a cloth book, they're building hand-eye coordination, spatial sense and patience. HOP & JOY chooses toys that are safe, durable and suited to each stage — so exploring feels whole for your child and worry-free for you.

What's in this category

  • Balance bikes & ride-ons: sturdy frames, quiet wheels that won't mark floors, and adjustable seats that grow with your child.
  • Wooden toys: stackers, shape sorters and busy boards, sanded smooth and finished with water-based, mouth-safe paint.
  • Active play: balls, mini slides, ball pits and climbing frames that burn energy indoors.
  • Play mats: cushioned, non-slip flooring for crawling and first steps, with no hard landings.
  • Sensory toys: rattles, teethers, cloth books and musical toys for the earliest months.
  • Creative play: dough, non-toxic crayons and colouring sets for older toddlers.

How to choose

Start with age. Under three, stick to large-piece toys with nothing small enough to come loose. Always read the age guidance on the packaging.

Follow the skill they're working on. Babies learning to sit enjoy grasping and sound-making toys. New walkers take to push-alongs and balance bikes. From two, stacking and pretend play take over.

Consider your space. Apartments do better with quiet rubber-wheeled bikes and toys that pack away. Homes with a yard or spare room can take a slide or ball pit.

Fewer, better toys. A handful of open-ended pieces that can be played with many ways will hold attention far longer than a dozen single-use ones.

Toy safety notes

  • Avoid small parts, loose magnets and button batteries for children under three — these carry the highest choking and ingestion risk.
  • Check for smooth edges, no wood splinters and no sharp plastic seams.
  • With balance bikes, use a helmet outdoors and always supervise.
  • Review the toy box regularly and remove anything cracked or with loose screws.
  • Clean toys often, especially the ones that end up in your baby's mouth.

Why HOP & JOY

Every toy is checked for materials, finish and safety before it reaches your child. Because their fun is only whole when your mind is completely at ease.
